Mr.Perfect

It was a bright morning in January. Our college seemed to be as crowded as marina beach on sundays, the reason being-FESTEVE, Our annual cultural event. There are two reasons why girls like us look forward for this event; first, This is the only time GUYS from other colleges can enter our campus under the pretext of participating in culturals and occasionally there are some cute guys around and of course plenty of time for networking ;).The second reason being FOOD, there are a number of yummy food stalls ranging from fruit shop to wraps and rolls and it’s paradise for my friends and I who are hardcore hoggers.

It was Day 1 of festeve and it started off with the boring events such as Indian music and folk dance , the only event that was worth watching was fashion show but that was scheduled in the evening. I turned to my best friend and asked "Mokkaiya irruku, first half bunk panlam va ". She replied "Aiyoo, andha watchman nadhari vidamataan….we can escape only during the lunch break".

A guy from Vivekananda College was giving a carnatic recital and it was blaring through the loudspeakers. I made a desperate attempt to shut my ears in order to tune away from the noise and I told her " Idhu enna cultural ah ille mazhgazhi kacheria….venkatadri paadi savu adikrane". My friend said "Hey….lets bunk after western dance, Loyola’s dream team is performing….they are supposed to be awesome". I agreed to stay reluctantly but cursed her in my mind.

Loyola’s dream team was performing on stage and everyone was spellbound including me but not for long as my distraction was just around the corner. He walked past me and only one thought came to my mind ‘Mr. Perfect’.

He was tall, dark and quite handsome. His hair was blue black; he had deep brown eyes and a long well shaped nose,a french beard, a lovely smile and a cute set of dimples to complement that. He had the body of an athlete but he had a rather funny gait. His dressing sense was classy; the formal brown shirt that he was wearing seemed to match the color of his eyes. He was sophisticated and debonair and had this air of class about him. He seemed to be a perfect gentleman, the kind of guy you could introduce to your parents and who would make a prospective son in law and a good husband. I couldn’t say that he was the best looking guy on earth but there was something about him. He seemed to be perfect in my viewpoint.

I had this recurrent dream since childhood where I am standing in a field of yellow flowers wearing a beautiful white gown with a veil covering my head, a prince dressed in black with a long cape fluttering in the wind comes galloping in his black stallion and carries me away ,He holds me in his mighty strong arms. But in this case, Mr. Perfect was holding his camera and clicking snaps of the dream team performing on stage.

My friend brought me out of my reverie "Sight adichadu podhum….but summa solakudadhu andha paiyan nalla dhan irrukan…andha madri oru paiyan kedacha nalla irrukum ", she said. I chided myself for ogling in such a conspicuous manner and replied "Mmmm….aama…..Perfect ah irrukan."

The dream team’s performance ended and as they walked down the stage they were greeted by Mr. Perfect’s hugs and thumbs up signs. He was busy showing them the pictures that he had taken and they seemed to be pretty impressed. The results were announced shortly, needless to say THE DREAM TEAM continued their winning streak and they walked away with the trophy and I saw Mr. Perfect walking away until he faded away from my sight. My friend returned to the subject of bunking, "Lunch break….enga poradhunu seekram decide pannu……Escape aydalam" ,she said and we got back to business.

And that was the last time I saw Mr. Perfect.

My first post....Dedicated to someone special.

Life is ironic indeed.

The moment I had set my eyes on you I knew it; I hated you instantly for no reason at all. I was put off by your very existence even when people did speak highly about you and attempted to prove me wrong.Everytime i think about our first encounter i break into a wry smile.

It’s funny to think of all those mundane formal conversations we have had just for the sake of being courteous with absolutely no interest at all. Life would have been very different if only I had decided not to reply for that one text message. Perhaps, I wouldn’t be writing all this. I have always wondered why you ever talked to me, when it is usually difficult for people to see me beyond the standard monosyllabic replies and disinterested attitude,
Remind me to ask you someday.

“What’s in a name?” I do agree with Shakespeare when it comes to us ,I can never give a specific name tag to our relationship. You have been like a father when you spoil me rotten, give in to my demands and treat me like a kid when I pester you for petty treats like ice creams and chocolates, a mother when you scold me for the irresponsible things I do such as waking up late in the mornings, refusing to bathe & wash my dirty jeans ,coming home late and also the concern you show when I am sick or wounded, a brother when you are protective about me, a sister when we gossip about the latest digs, a friend when we hang out and have so much fun together, a confidant when you listen to my worries and woes, a counselor who helps me overcome my problems but sometimes you are the root cause of all my problems , an hopeless romantic when you whisper sweet nothings into my ear and hold hands for what appears to be an eternity ,a bully when you tease me and make me cry, a child when you try hard to remain on your stand but finally give in, a companion when I am lonely, a teacher when you teach me many things about life ,a boyfriend when you turn out to be such a nag ,a guide when you advice me and try to put me on the right track, a critic when you don’t approve of the things I do. How is it even remotely possible to describe all this in a single word?

Sometimes I think we are puppets in god’s very own sadistic puppet show, he does know that we belong to two entirely different worlds and we are individuals with strikingly different ideals and priorities then why would he make us meet and ignite those feelings when the end is rather grim. I definitely don’t appreciate his dark humor.

When you leave life would be difficult but not entirely impossible to deal with. I would miss many things, those numerous coffee shops and restaurants we visited, the long drives, those times we have spent doing absolutely nothing, those various occasions when I was angry with you ,our silly fights and the almost immediate making up ,the times you made me cry, those phone conversations which went on till daybreak ,your drunk dials ,those times when I used to wait for you knowing very well that you would turn up late, the times you used to play with my hair ,the smell of your cologne, those goodbye hugs ,the various occasions when I used to hurl abuses at you , our stupid brawls, those times when you were possessive about me that made me feel special and loved, I would treasure all those memories and hold on to them, that would keep me going for a lifetime.

Thank you for everything.
